Veterans Golf Park for Disabled Veterans, dba Veterans Community Center, is a self-funded non profit 501(3)(c) established by James and Jeanne Rounsavell of Citrus Heights, CA in 2011.
Veterans Golf Park was established with the primary focus being the therapeutic aid of golf for veterans with disabilities and PTSD. Our organization is partnered with Mather Golf Course for our veterans use to those who physiologically and socially benefit through golf therapies.
Along with the original purpose, our mission has extended to provide an activity center in the community for veterans, the Veterans Community Center. We presently serve up to 150 veterans monthly by providing meals twice a week. In addition, our veterans and their guests are welcome to make use of the center's recreational amenities and educational resources during open hours.
Our Mission Statement
We provide a "Safe Room" center for all military veterans, particularly seniors, disabled and those who suffer with PTSD, providing emotional and physiological benefits through socialization, activity, counseling and recreational therapies. We are a reference center for veterans who need assistance with their VA benefits and any additional information that may require to meet their needs.
Our Veterans Community Center
In 2013 we were blessed to be able to acquire a rather historic building in Citrus Heights, CA and over the years have been in the process of turning it into a meeting place and gathering spot for our veterans. We have been meeting since the beginning, but have taken many new tasks to get it to where it is today.
The building was originally built in 1862 as a schoolhouse and was called Sylvan School. Years later it became a central meeting place for the community of Citrus Heights and served as it's center for over 40 years. When the years eventually took their toll on the old building, and as Citrus Heights moved towards becoming an incorporated City, they decided to build another facility and put this one on the market. We at Veterans Golf Park thought if we could get enough help we could restore the old place and it's location and property would serve our cause and Vets to a tee.
Below are some photos of the building when we first got it and the progress we have made with help from volunteers to bring it along. There is still more to do - we almost always need maintenance of some kind, and as an old building there seems a never-ending list of things to do. However, we have made wonderful progress and this place is NOTHING like it was when we first acquired it!
